Just got the new Icom ID-5200? Before you get too far into programming it, make sure it’s running the latest firmware. In this video, I walk you through the complete Icom ID-5200 firmware update process, step by step, so you can update your radio with confidence and without guessing. First, I show you exactly where to find the official ID-5200 firmware on the Icom America website. The firmware download page isn’t the easiest thing to track down, so I take you straight to it and show you which file to download. Then we prepare a micro SD card, copy the firmware file onto it the right way, and load the update onto the radio. You’ll see every screen and every menu selection along the way, so you can follow along with your own radio. Keeping your ID-5200 firmware current matters. Icom adds features, fixes bugs, and improves performance through firmware releases, and future updates are expected to expand what this radio can do, including APRS support. Once you know this process, you can apply every future Icom firmware update to your ID-5200 in just a few minutes. The Icom ID-5200 is a dual band 2 meter and 70 centimeter D-STAR mobile radio. It has a large color touchscreen, a waterfall display, true dual receive including DV and DV, built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and terminal and access point modes for D-STAR. Whether you use it for D-STAR repeater work, analog FM, emergency communications, or as your everyday mobile rig, starting with up-to-date firmware gets you the most out of it. Before you update: back up your memory channels and settings, use a compatible micro SD card, and never power off the radio while the update is running.
